We all long for relationship. Though some of us attempt to put up walls and try to look strong and independent, we really desire to be known and sought out. How do we as Olive Branchers break through and connect with others? In essence, how do we shine as lights in a dark and disconnected world?
During this time of quarantine, it’s easy to think about ourselves. I was challenged by God’s Word recently in Philippians 2:14-15: “Do all things without grumbling or disputing, that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish… among whom you shine as lights in the world…” Interesting that Paul insinuates that grumbling affects one’s ability to be a light to others!
So then, what next?
- We need to stop complaining (I’m guilty on this one) so that we can provide hope.
- We need to realize that we are in the midst of some “light momentary affliction” (2 Corinthians 4:17).
- We need to reach out to those around us. Call, text, or email, but do what it takes to reach out to those around us. Especially neighbors.
Our Being Neighborly booklet is on the front page of the Olive Branch app. It has a place to keep track of the prayer requests of our neighbors. To be a light to your neighbors:
- Reach out and ask how you can pray for them.
- Write those requests down (preferably on the app so that you’ll always have it with you).
- Pray for them.
- Follow up in a week and ask how things are going. You will be amazed at how the relationship moves forward when you follow up with a prayer request.
It’s a powerful time right now to be a light to those around you. Take the opportunity to reach out and show you care. And let’s pray for follow up opportunities and developing the relationship. I’ll be praying for you!
