We’re living in different times, aren’t we? Uncertainty, ambiguity, anxiety, and many other issues swirl around our brains, and around our communities. How does a Christian navigate this?
Here at Olive Branch, we encourage everyone to Love, Live, and Share Christ wherever we go. Though most of us still find it awkward, part of our growing in Christ is to share Christ. Even in the midst of our own uncertainty, ambiguity, and anxiety, we are to model and share the good news of Jesus Christ.
But in this era of social distancing, how does one “share” Christ? I admit, there are certain limitations at this time period, but when we truly love and live for Christ, we will fall more in love with our neighbors and those who desperately need to know their Savior. And this love should spur us on to creative ways to share.
Let’s look at some practical ways:
- We can simply write notes to our neighbors, coworkers, and family members to let them know we’d love to pray for them. These notes can be by text, email, handwritten notes that are mailed, as well as notes we can simply put on the doorstep.
- We can just knock on our neighbor’s door. It’s pretty easy to keep our social distance and talk to people through their screen door. What is really important is that our neighbors and friends know that we are there for them. This is a scary time for many. Joni Earickson Tada recently stated, “In the worst of times, Christians should be at their best.” I echo this sentiment.
We know there will be an end to this crazy time. Though things may never be the same, at some point we will reach a new normal. During this time of extreme uncertainty and ambiguity, we need to be lights to a dark world. We need to be a comfort to those who are hurting. And our first step is simply to communicate that we are available, ready to serve and love.
